The broad information covered in an onboarding packet isn’t typically enough to give new temporary workers a sense of how things are done on a day-to-day basis. This includes aspects of the company culture, such as the tone of the office (conservative or laid back), breaks/lunches (do people stay at their desks or go out in groups?), and preferred communication method (email, phone, face to face).

There is often a division between temporary and permanent employees, in which the temps aren’t included in certain activities or events. Unfortunately, this separation can make your temps feel like they are seen as second class workers. Show they are considered equals – ask questions to get to know them better, invite them to meetings, host a group lunch, have them sign the office birthday cards, etc.
